Morgan's Passing

Searching for Myself (My title) :
By Ferda Şaşzade
Title: Morgan’s Passing
Author: Anne Tyler
Publisher: The Random House Publishing Group
Date of Publishing: 1980
Number of Pages:346

The book named Morgan’s Passing by Anne Tyler is a great love story of a man who still tries to find out his own identity. It is a lovely novel of intelligence and humor, and it is told by Anne Tyler's incomparable using of empathy, irony, and dramatic tension. It is written “Fascinating… So unconventional a love story that it appears to take its protagonists themselves by surprise.” by Mademoiselle, and “An almost flawless story of love….Morgan emerges as a true hero.” by Los Angeles Times. I also read Invisible Threads by Anne Tyler which is again a wonderful book. What makes Anne Tyler an experienced author is her use of figurative language and shocking events.
The novel opens at a church fair puppet show and in the second page action starts. Emily and Leon couple , who plays puppets, give birth by the help of a man from the audience but the man they know as Dr. Morgan. But Morgan has masqueraded as many other people sometimes he becomes sailor outfits sometimes soldier outfits…
The story is told by year to year and it begins in 1967 ends in 1979… In every year there are at least 3 chapters but it can be 8 in some chapters. The numbers of the chapters depend on events.
His life style is too different than an ordinary person’s life style. His wife knew none of his friends, nothing about where he worked and his children had never seen where he worked; it wasn't in a safe part of town, their mother said.
Through the book sometimes he decides to be an author sometimes he becomes doctor sometimes he thinks he has a musical eye etc. So what I mean is it is hard to catch up what he is doing till the end.
At the end of the book, he decides to get back to his own life. But Emily and Leon comes up again. Morgan observes Emily and Leon but especially Emily because he starts to feel different feelings for her. As he knows her better, he knows himself better. He finds himself inside her soul and he begins to play must challenging role ever, himself.
To sum up, I can say that Morgan’s Passing is one of the most effective and interesting book that I have ever read. I can advice all my friends who are interested in different type of love stories…

This novel is the most famous Spenser series of the Robert B. Parker and it is the New York Times bestseller. It is a magnificent detective story. The novel is the best that I have ever read and I am sure it will also be yours.

The book cover is brilliant. It really attracts me at the first sight. There is an ace in cover which is divided by a bullet. First I chose other novel of Robert B. Parker then I changed the other novel with this novel for its book cover but after I read it I understand that there are better thing inside the book. Also the book review really attracts me.

Spenser, the protagonist, tells the story from his point of view and his in intelligent behaviors makes novel excellent. His approaches to the events are very realistic. Every single moment of the novel brings new adventures. Also other themes are really effective in the novel such as gambling and violence.

The author Robert B. Parker is very talented. His way of writing attracts the reader and makes reader want to read more. Besides he is very good at writing detective stories. Robert Parker wrote 35 novels for Spenser Series and his Promised Land novel won Edgar Allen Poe Awards in 1977 and it is a Spenser novel.

As a summary, Chance is wonderfully entertaining. I recommend this novel for everyone because it is a fascinating book. If you want to gain reading habit you should read that book. Next book that I will read is Robert B. Parker’s best book Promised Land.

Title: The Kite Runner
Author: Khaled Hosseini
Publisher: The Berkley Publishing Group
Date of Publishing: June, 2003
Number of pages: 371
Hardcover
The book named The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini has recieved many favourable and constructive reviews and significant awards. It is a national best seller and it has been chosen as the best book of the year by San Francisco Chronicle. So, as it is expected, this book is really majestic. The thing that makes The Kite Runner different and more impressive than the other books is its extraordinary story that is full of unexpected and shocking events, which displays the violence and chaos in Afghanistan during the Russian invasion and Taliban ascendancy.
The opening sentence of the novel is enough to make the reader curious. “I became what I am today at the age of twelve, on a frigid overcast day in the winter of 1975.”
Isn’t it making you feel curious about what happened in 1975 that affected the narrator so much?
The narrator, Amir, tells his haunting and depressing life story, beginning from his childhood. He does not only tell his story but also he brings out in how hard conditions people had to live in Afghanistan during those years. Amir, who witnessed a bitter event in his childhood, keeps it as his secret and tells his life story that is full of guilty conscience because of that secret.
This incredibly impressive book displays the importance of friendship in people’s lives. However, the book also mentions significant notions about discrimination, violence, loyalty, family relations, love and guilty conscience.
Furthermore, the book also shows the violence that caused by the forces that interfere with Afghanistan government. By mentioning Afghanistan, the author also displays the Afghan traditions and customs.
As a result, I can say that The Kite Runner is one of the most effective books that I have read until now and I am sure that many other people share my opinions about this book also.

Title: Soldier X

Author: Don Wulfson

Publisher: Penguin Group

Date of Publishing:2001

Number of Pages: 226

Hardcover

This is a great book that tells the reader a story about love, fear, patriotism, friendship and betrayal. Anyone who is intrigued in these subjects must try this book themselves because I know that they will love it.

In the story, a young, newly recruited German soldier is sent to the eastern front, to fight the Russians. His grandparents were Russians, so he has a lot of inner conflict fighting his own ancestors. When he is left behind in a German retreat, he convinces the other Russians that he is a wounded Russian soldier and so, he is sent to a hospital to recover. There, he falls in love with his nurse and runs away with her. When the American soldiers come, they shoot him thinking he is a German soldier and he wakes up in a hospital with his arm cut off. He is thankful that both him and his future wife is alive and he marries her. He then goes to America to teach history in a school. He tells his students that he lost his arm in the Second World War but he doesn’t tell them which side he fought on.

The author, Don Wulfson explains his story in a very efficient way that keeps the reader excited all throughout the book.

In conclusion, this is a must-read book for everyone who is interested in the subjects I have mentioned before. I believe that this is a great book and that it should be advertised more.

A poignant story about finding connection between past and now

Title: The Secret Life of Bees
Author: Sue Monk Kidd
Publisher: Penguin Group
Date of publishing: 2002
Number of pages: 302

This book has been a New York Times bestseller. It was a good book to read but for me it wasn’t that good to be a bestseller. First I was enjoying the book and it was interesting. Later when I kept reading, it became boring and illogical. The way main character acts was not the way I would do or her thoughts were not sensible for me. Therefore I don’t understand her behaviors and it seems ridiculous to me. Anyhow as I said before this book has been a bestseller and lots of people made comments for this book.

‘’The chapters…dance on the edges of ‘Magical Realism,’ that blend of the fabulous and the ordinary that can invest a tale with a sense of wonderment, as is the case here.’’ –Richmond Times-Dispatch.
‘’Maybe it’s true that there are no perfect books, but I closed this one believing that I had found perfection.’’

The secret life of bees is about a girl who lost her mother in an accident when she was little and looking for a connection between her life and her mother’s life. In the story, she struggles with problems and she tires to make things right for her. She run away from her father and she and her maid founds another place which she feels like she is in her home.

Surely everybody’s taste is different from each other. I’m kind of a person who likes to have an action in the story and I’m looking for logic and realistic things. Therefore this book wasn’t the most enjoyable or perfect book for me but it was good to read it.

If you like books about evolution in psychology, handling problems and trying to find the best way that fits you, this book is a wonderful book for you and it’s going to be perfection and a full satisfaction that you are looking for in a book.

All your fears wait you

***** All your fears wait you in this book.

By Asilhan Şahin (İzmir, Turkey)
Title: Skeleton Crew
Author: Stephen King
Publisher: Awesome Books
Date of publishing: 01/11/1991
Number of pages: 573
Hardcover

This book was a international bestseller when it came out. According to many people, it was a one of the masterpieces of Stephen King. According to me, it was a kind of horror book which keep you on the thorn till you finish the book and it was a very hard thing to do for horror books.

Stephen King didn’t wanted to go on a story. He chose to tell fourteen stories. So that, the book doesn’t bother the readers. So that, I only chose the one of the story in the book to tell you which is most popular and longer than the others; “The Mist”.

Stephen King tells a people’s lives, behaves, believes who stucked in one of the supermarket because of a mysterical and dangerous mist.

The story takes in a smalltown that which’s name is Maine. A very big mist occurs and covers that small town and that mist doesn’t come alone, it brings big animals in itself, also. These big animals which is in the mist starts to kill everything which they can smell. The book tells a group of people that who are struggling to survive in a supermarket in that time. The onlt solution for them is to run away from that smalltown.

On the other hand, if I should to critize that story. Actually, I saw many books and films which is about monsters, supermarket and hopeless at the same time but Stephen King was accenting the hopeless more effectivelly. “It was a disaster.”, “No, it was an end of the day.” . You can see the hopeless sides of the people in the supermarket. Their viewpoints are differently from each other but all of them full with hopeless. Anyway, in the end we understood their all efforts was in vain.

If you are a person who is starting to bore in the middle of the book. You can read this book. Stephen King seperated the book in fourteen parts and every parts include different stories. So that, you won’t read the same story in pages and pages. So that, I can promise that you won’t bother when you read that book and you will also read one of the masterpieces of Stephen King thanks to me.

Not as Good as Sherlock Holmes

Title: Cain His Brother
Author: Anne Perry
Publisher: Ballantine Books
Date Publishing: 1993
Number of Pages: 326
Hardcover

I chose this book because I had been watching the series called “Monk” which shows the life of a inspector who doesn’t miss any thing, and he can memorize 1000 cards in a row and tell their order from the back and books protagonist is an inspector called William Monk.

Writter of the book is the bestselling author of TRAITORS GATE. She style is based on crimes, mystery and different environments. Most of them are really liked and recomended. However, as a student who likes to read books which theach about life, I do not feel the same for “Cain his Brother”. It doesn’t make you empathize any of the caracters, the book really doesn’t show any thing I do not know and most important fact;

The resolution can be easilininy guessed just at the beging: “ Inspector W. Monk knows his citys best and worst- or so he believes, until the day when charming Genevieve stonefield comes to plead with him to find her missing husband” It actually sounds Interesting and mysterious -it isn’t the only written thing. Take a look at the second part:
“In his family life, Angus Stone field had been gentle and loving; in bussiness, a man of probity; and in his relation ship with his twin brother, Caleb, a virtual saint. Now he is missing and it appears more than possible that Caleb-a creature long since abondoned to depravity-has murdered him”. Still didn’t get the end? You may want to take a look at the very last page and learn what happens.

What I only liked about the novel is the rising action(s).The mystery and confusion is added by Inspector William Monks own thoughts. Since the story is written in first persons point of view, reader only sees what Mr. Monk thought which was mainly; “he must have gone to live adventure with a woman” and it had been built slowly and in rich detail.
